Plot Outline:
America in 1920. The Great War is over, Wall Street is about to boom and everything is for sale, even the World Series. It is a time of change when women are getting the vote, broadcast radio is introduced, and young people rule the world.

On the beach in southern New Jersey sits Atlantic City, a spectacular resort known as "The World's Playground," a place where rules don't apply. Massive hotels line its famous Boardwalk, along with nightclubs, amusement piers and entertainment to rival Broadway. For a few dollars, a working man can get away and live like a king -- legally or illegally.

I can't wait for this show to premiere, it looks amazing! Anything touched by a brilliant mind of The Soprano's, I'll tune to.

Loved it! Can't wait for next week.

some of my thoughts

Loving the connection Nucky has made with Margaret! Was cheering when we saw he had his brother take her asshole husband out of the picture. However something tells me Lucy may not be so happy to have Nucky get closer to Margaret in any way. Lucy seems like she could be a jealous crazy type for sure. And did everyone else laugh at the "Cowboy" scene? Razz

Jimmy worries me, I like him as a character and all but I'm afraid he will get into trouble if he doesn't keep in line. Pulling that move without even talking to Nucky? That took some nerve, I loved that scene...really had me thinking Jimmy was working the the FBI on a raid against Nucky/ Rothstein and not Mickey.

How great was it seeing Al, Lucky, and Rothstein? LOVE LOVE LOVE the casting so far, and the wardrobe? Freaking amazing as well.

One thing that I missed or couldn't connect was why the restaurant guy from Chicago got shot towards the end?

Oh and I think AB needs to take a hint from this... I wouldn't mind some episodes of TB running for an hour and fifteen minutes!

I think the guy with the moustache was Frank Nitty, but I am not for sure (have to watch this again)

And I have to agree, the costuming was was beautiful and the photography was very beautiful.

And all of the mob characters are real guys, so it is great to see how the mob really starts with Prohibition...

And Barrister really liked it too.

Other Mob movies you might like if you liked BE:

The Godfather- This is heavily fictionalized but the characters are all based on real mob characters and all three of the movies are great, but GF I and II are superior (GF III was a little too contrived for my taste)
The trilogy takes you from the mid 1940's to the late 70's

Goodfellahs- This is the account of one guy's life in the mob. Set in the late 60's it sort of sets the stage for the decline of the mob and the old Sicilian system of honor and Omerta (the code of silence)

A Bronx Tale- This story is told through the eyes of a young boy growing up in the late 50's to about '67 in the Bronx watching the rise and fall of the local mob guy....really compelling

Casino- Not really my fave mob movie but worth a looking over.

Donnie Brasco- Early 70's look into how the FBI infiltrated the mob and what it was like to go undercover. Stars the talented Johnny Depp.

Dutch- This is about the mobster Dutch Schultz...really nicely done little film that just did not have the glamour to pull it off.

The Sopranos- I loved this series, but the last couple of seasons were a bit of a drag and the series finale was a real cop out as far as I am concerned.

I have been waiting and waiting for this premiere! And it did not dissapoint!

Nucky is such an amazing character. He is so bad / he is so good. His moral compass is askew, but he certainly sticks to it. I have it on my PVR, and I'm going to take another crack at it tonight.

Ok I just watched the episode again, and solved my little question.

The guy with the moustache/ restaurant owner is Big Jim Colosimo, who was the main opposition to Chicago getting involved in the liquor business (Jimmy and Al discuss this outside, during the meeting). The guy who shoots Big Jim is shown just prior to that meeting with Al for the delivery of the stolen liquor.

I can't wait for next weeks episode!

I just watched it and really liked it. Didn't pay close attention to it, may have to watch it again.

Love Steve Buschemi.

I absolutely love the costumes. I may have to take out my flapper dress costume for Sunday nights now :)

Ok I need to try and get a screencap..but I swear to Godric that the picture of Nucky's wife (shown in his bedroom) is of Alma Garret from Deadwood! lol

*** If anyone has a clue where to find complete episode screencaps for BWE that would be amazing and I would love you that much more! Wink

On September 21, 2010, Boardwalk Empire was renewed for second season after the premier episode gained HBO’s highest ratings for any premier since 2004’s Deadwood.

I watched the premier and was a little disappointed. In my opinion, it did not live up to the hype. Maybe I will become more interested after a couple more episodes. Perhaps my problem is that I didn't really meet a character I liked.
